Elmar Mammadyarov addresses second session of informal meeting of G20 foreign ministers - <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION</font>

Foreign Minister of Mexico, who addressed the meeting prior to Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, said participation of Azerbaijan and other countries in capacity of guests, arises from the importance of the regions they represent and their role in the international arena.

Foreign Minister of the Republic of South Africa called on the developed countries to assist poor countries of Africa like Azerbaijan does.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov touched on the sustainable development and elimination of poverty and underlined that positive results were produced in this sphere in Azerbaijan within 20 years of independence. Noting that considerable part of Azerbaijani territories is still under occupation, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan is working to strengthen its independence and sovereignty. Elmar Mammadyarov said big investments are made in education in Azerbaijan and added that future generations will be able to establish a mighty state having strong economy and social policy. He said ICT is the major developing area in the country. Touching on the gender equality, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov spoke about the important role of women in the society and underlined the significance of paying attention to these issues especially in the developing countries.

Touching upon the security issues, Minister Mammadyarov underlined the importance of the mechanism for implementation of the decisions passed in this field. He said despite UN Security Councilâ€™s four resolutions on Nagorno Karabakh conflict Azerbaijan had an unpleasant experience of non-existence of mechanism for implementation of these resolutions. He urged UN Security Council to respect its resolutions and create the mechanism for implementation of them. The minister underlined the significance of the United Nations as a universal organization and said it must have more effective authorities to secure implementation of its decisions. Mammadyarov said it was one of the main conditions for enhancing global and regional security.

Azerbaijani foreign minister met his counterparts from the United States, Columbia, UAE, Australia, Mexico, Turkey, Benin, Chile, South Africa, and delegation of the African Union within the G20 foreign ministersâ€™ informal meeting.
