The goals were scored by Alejandro Grimaldo (84th minute, penalty), Jonathan David (90) and Giuliano Simeone (90+5).
Real Sociedad midfielder Arsen Zakharyan came on as a substitute in the 85th minute. This was the Russian's second appearance for the Spanish club this season. He had previously appeared late in the second half of the opening game of the Spanish league season against Real Betis (0-1).
Atlético Madrid is fourth in the Spanish league table with 10 points. Real Sociedad is 12th with seven points. Atlético Madrid will host Osasuna on September 16, while Real Sociedad will travel to Valencia on September 20.
