The State Agency for Regulation of Nuclear and Radiological Activities under Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations has organized an event jointly with the Ministry’s North-West Regional Center as part of awareness-raising activities in the field of nuclear and radiation safety, the Ministry told APA.
Representatives of executive authorities from districts covered by the Center, heads of enterprises and organizations operating in connection with ionizing radiation, as well as representatives of local structures of the Ministry of Emergency Situations took part in the event.
Opening the event, Deputy Head of the North-West Regional Center Mammad Baghirov spoke about the importance of awareness-raising activities and emphasized the need for the safe use of ionizing radiation sources, compliance with radiation safety requirements and increasing the awareness of people working in this field.
He also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and the exchange of information among relevant agencies at the regional level.
Deputy Head of the Agency Akbar Guliyev provided information about the Agency’s activities, current tasks and measures implemented jointly with regional centers.
The event discussed nuclear and radiological activities, control mechanisms, orphan radioactive sources, coordination among agencies when such sources are detected, nuclear and radiological emergencies, as well as management mechanisms in such situations.
Agency employees also delivered presentations on relevant topics, showed video materials and answered participants’ questions in detail.
