US Vice President J.D. Vance claims Iran may have been involved in the incident at Fairford Air Force Base in the UK, APA reports.
"We do believe with a certain degree of confidence that the Iranians... You know, they're trying to do what the Iranian government has been doing for 49 years, which is committing acts of terrorism against the United States and against many other people," the deputy head of the Washington administration told reporters, commenting on the incident at the Fairford air base.
In doing so, he effectively acknowledged, contrary to what US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously stated, that the withdrawal of American B-1 strategic bombers from Fairford Air Force Base occurred in light of what had happened there. "Out of an abundance of caution. In an effort to protect our guys," Vance said, referring to the redeployment of these aircraft to the United States. The Pentagon confirmed on October 4 that all B-1s stationed at Fairford Air Force Base had been returned to the United States.
The Vice President also noted that Washington has no information that would point to Iran's involvement in the recent incident on the Flydubai flight. "In terms of Iran's involvement, I'll defer to [CIA Director] John Ratcliffe and intelligence officials to comment on that. I don't want to get ahead of myself <...>. We're certainly looking into it. However, I would say I haven't seen anything definitive yet," Vance emphasized. He added that the US is conducting checks to prevent similar incidents domestically. "We're certainly reviewing our procedures domestically to ensure that people who pose a risk to air travel don't end up at the controls of an airplane," Vance said.
