The infection situation in Russia’s Irkutsk region is being handled by specialists from Rospotrebnadzor, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said while commenting on reports that plague had been detected in the region, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, Rospotrebnadzor is dealing with the infection situation in the region, as the matter falls within its competence.
The Kremlin spokesman urged people to listen to professionals at Rospotrebnadzor regarding the situation in the Irkutsk region rather than rumors and speculation.
It should be noted that around 200 people were reportedly placed under observation on suspicion of plague following the death of a 28-year-old laboratory employee of the Anti-Plague Institute in Russia’s Irkutsk region. A three-week quarantine was also reportedly introduced at some hospitals.
Rospotrebnadzor, however, has not confirmed a plague diagnosis.
