Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, met with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan,APA's Tehran bureau reports.
Ghalibaf addressed Iran's policy of developing and strengthening relations with neighboring countries, including Armenia, during the meeting. He expressed hope that the strategic cooperation agreement between Iran and Armenia would be finalized soon.
Ghalibaf emphasized that the Caucasus should not become an arena for geopolitical rivalry among extra-regional powers.
Discussing developments in the Caucasus, the Iranian parliamentary speaker stated that the region is in greater need of stability and the consolidation of official borders than ever before. According to him, interference by extra-regional powers could undermine security.
Ghalibaf also asserted that the US has failed to achieve its objectives in a military confrontation with Iran and has damaged its own credibility in the political arena by failing to honor its commitments.
