“Without stability, there would be neither Qarabağ nor Gurban Gurbanov,” Qarabağ football club head coach Gurban Gurbanov said during his speech at the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, APA reports.
“Today, when Azerbaijan’s success in the Champions League is being discussed, the responsibility increases even more. I have always thought as an Azerbaijani that we represent our country, and this is my duty. During the Patriotic War, we sacrificed lives for the liberation of our lands. What we achieve is just a small success. I always remind my players of this. Stability is needed for Azerbaijan to be recognized, including in football. We strive to achieve even greater success in the future,” Qurbanov said.
He added that to be a good coach, one must have been a footballer and emphasized the importance of hard work to achieve success: “Sometimes, when I was a player, I disagreed with the coach myself. But when I started playing professionally, I began to understand a footballer’s psychology. I have always prioritized working hard to succeed, and now I instill this in my players. Sometimes they do not like it. I recall my own years as a player and try to make them understand the importance of hard work. Qarabağ’s victories also bring joy to the people. In 2009, when we won the Augoliga, it coincided with the day of Agdam’s occupation. Winning that day made us very happy. That championship was very significant for us.”
