AFFA denies reports that Azerbaijan supports Russia’s return to European football tournaments

The Russian press reported that at the UEFA meeting in Albania, Azerbaijan supported the resumption of the participation of Russian national teams and clubs in international tournaments, APA reports.

In addition to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece and Hungary also expressed their support for Russia's return.

Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, as well as France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, England, Ireland, Scotland and Iceland spoke out against the resumption of the participation of Russian representatives in international tournaments.

APA contacted the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), which told Apasport that the reports are false. AFFA confirmed that no inquiry was received from UEFA, no Azerbaijani representatives attended the meeting. AFFA, which stated that it does not have a member of the UEFA Executive Committee, stated that it does not have the authority to interfere in these matters.
