Malik Hasanov: Time limit of clubs causes postponing Super Cup matches

“Time limit of our clubs causes postponing Super Cup matches. Our clubs playing in Euro Cups can be obliged to compete in Super Cup. Taking this into account, we do not hold Super Cups. We intend to hold these matches,” chief of AFFA’s Competition Organizing Department Malik Hasanov said, APA-Sport agency reports. Hasanov protested to the reports that capital clubs outnumber regional ones.
“I do not agree to it. Winner of the last championship was a regional team – Khazar-Lankaran. Turan’s (Tovuz) beating Neftchi in Baku, Gabala’s beating Standard and Baki are the facts proving that regional teams do not undergo pressures. We can enlarge the list,” he said.
AFFA official underlined that our clubs should be in line with European standards in order to get good results in continent matches.
“There is some improvement in some of our clubs in this field. But our sportsmen’s problems with regard to physical training cause their failure in Euro Cups. The footballers were not weaker than their rivals, they even sometimes left them behind. The draw chose strong teams against us. Despite this, our sportsmen did their best in Euro Cups. I think that our clubs will get better results. We want our national team to get license to European championship where the strongest teams of the continent compete. But we should be real. If our clubs’ potential allows stepping forward only one stage, of course it will be difficult for our national team to get license to European championship. The level of clubs and national team is mostly connected with each other,” he said. /APA/
