Azerbaijan is one of the key countries connecting the two major parts of the Turkic world, President of the Turkic Investment Fund Baghdad Amreyev said during a panel discussion titled “Azerbaijan at the Center of South Caucasus–Central Asia Strategic Partnerships: A Key Driver of Regional Cooperation” held as part of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, APA reports.

He said that Azerbaijan currently plays an important role in developing ties with both Türkiye and Central Asia:

“Azerbaijan unites the Turkic world and connects the two major parts of the Turkic space. This would not be possible without Azerbaijan. No connectivity or logistics project can bypass Azerbaijan. In recent years, real integration processes between Azerbaijan and Central Asia have accelerated. One of the main factors behind this is the establishment of the Organization of Turkic States and the Turkic Investment Fund, which serve the integration of the Turkic states."

The official said Azerbaijan’s active participation in these processes is viewed positively: “The opening of the Zangezur Corridor could further increase Azerbaijan’s importance in integration processes. If this process is successful, other states will also begin to participate more actively in cooperation in the Turkic world."

Baghdad Amreyev also emphasized that the main priority of the Turkic Investment Fund is to finance projects that contribute to integration among the Turkic states.

He said that although the economies of the Turkic states differ from one another, these differences do not constitute an obstacle to integration: “On the contrary, the complementary nature of the countries’ economies creates additional opportunities for cooperation. The Fund’s investment policy is based on this principle. Although not all integration projects take the form of joint ventures, every joint venture in itself contributes to integration. Integration should combine the strengths of countries and enable them to overcome their weaknesses."

Baghdad Amreyev noted that the economic potential of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Hungary complements one another.

“Using these opportunities could pave the way for closer economic integration among the Turkic states,” he said.
