The US-Azerbaijan partnership, TRIPP and regional connectivity opportunities, as well as the role of the Middle Corridor in the development of trade, investment, and regional value chains were discussed at the “Middle Corridor: Regional Trade, Connectivity and Value Chains” panel held as part of the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, APA reports.
A panel session titled “Middle Corridor: Regional Trade, Connectivity and Value Chains” was held as part of the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, organized under the patronage of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan Amy Carlon, Bechtel Business Development Director Gabor Gerentser, Apollo Managing Director Jonathan Bar, Centricus Partner Halil Emecen, and Executive Director of the US-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce (USACC) Natig Bakhishov participated in the panel.
The second part of the panel session was dedicated to the topic “Middle Corridor: Regional Trade, Connectivity and Value Chains.”
The session, moderated by Euronews Bureau Chief Nadira Tudor, was attended by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rahman Hummatov, Turkmenistan’s Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy Perhat Yagshiyev, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration Aidar Abildabekov, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Azerbaijan Yu Hongqi, Executive Director of the German Eastern Business Association (OA) Michael Harms, Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Vakhtang Tsintsadze, CEO of Kibar Holding Haluk Kayabasi, and International Finance Corporation Director for the Western Balkans and South Caucasus Wiebke Schloemer.
The session discussed the development of the Middle Corridor as a sustainable East-West trade and logistics platform, strengthening Trans-Caspian connectivity and multimodal transport infrastructure, expanding railway, port, and logistics capacities, as well as developing trade and investment ties among Central Asia, Azerbaijan, and China. Attention was also paid to financing infrastructure through public-private partnerships, multilateral financial institutions, and private capital, linking transit opportunities with production, processing, and value-added activities, and expanding regional industrial cooperation and integration into value chains.
The discussions highlighted the opportunities for investment and economic cooperation created by Azerbaijan’s position as a strategic transit platform between Central Asia, the South Caucasus, and global markets, as well as by linking its transport and logistics capabilities with the development of production and regional value chains.
