Azerbaijan to extend maturity of government bonds - Minister

Azerbaijan will continue to diversify its public debt portfolio and extend the maturity of government bonds in the coming years, Finance Minister Sahil Babayev said during a session titled “International Financial Cooperation: Building Partnerships for Growth” held as part of the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

Sahil Babayev noted that measures have been taken to reduce the sensitivity of public debt to foreign exchange and market risks.

According to Sahil Babayev, the average maturity of government bonds currently stands at approximately 3.8 years, while 40% of the debt portfolio has a maturity of seven or 10 years.

Sahil Babayev said that in the coming years, work will continue to diversify the debt portfolio, extend the maturity of government bonds and thereby further reduce the exposure of public debt to risks.
