The Central Bank of Azerbaijan forecasts that the country’s current account surplus will reach $6.1 billion by the end of 2026, Chairman of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan Taleh Kazimov said during a session titled “International Financial Cooperation: Strengthening Partnerships for Economic Growth” held as part of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
Taleh Kazimov noted that, according to the Central Bank’s July forecast, Azerbaijan’s non-oil GDP is expected to grow by 2.4% by the end of 2026, while the current account surplus is projected at $6.1 billion.
Taleh Kazimov said inflation is within the Central Bank’s target range and is expected to remain within this range over the medium term.
According to Taleh Kazimov, geopolitical tensions, fragmentation of global trade, volatility in commodity markets and climate risks are increasing the vulnerability of both advanced and emerging economies. Under such conditions, central banks need to pursue more flexible and data-driven policies.
Taleh Kazimov emphasized that strong international partnerships are becoming increasingly important for long-term sustainable economic growth. One of Azerbaijan’s priorities is to attract international capital to finance infrastructure, industrial development and regional projects.
Taleh Kazimov added that Azerbaijan, which holds a strategic transport and logistics position along the Middle Corridor, attaches particular importance to attracting foreign investment to further diversify its economy.
