Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov chaired an informal meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, APA reports.
In his speech, the minister noted the deepening unity among the Turkic states, which share common roots and history, and emphasized that strengthening multilateral partnership is a strategic necessity amid changing global challenges.
The minister provided detailed information on the significant achievements made during Azerbaijan’s chairmanship based on the decisions adopted and initiatives put forward at the Gabala Summit.
During his speech, the minister thanked the member states for their active participation in events held in Azerbaijan. Events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress, which made a significant contribution to the study of the language, history, and cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples, were noted as an important milestone.
In addition, recent events, including meetings of the Secretaries of Security Councils, the Council of Heads of Muslim Religious Administrations, and leading national think tanks held in Baku, demonstrated the broad scope of this agenda.
Emphasizing the importance of further enhancing the OTS’s international standing, the minister noted that obtaining observer status for the organization at the UN General Assembly is one of the common goals.
He once again emphasized that strengthening physical transport links and transit infrastructure across the Turkic geography, as well as enhancing regional resilience and connectivity, is a strategic necessity.
It was also noted that expanding practical and sectoral cooperation in trade, energy, ICT, science, technology, and culture is a high priority in order to create direct opportunities for our business communities and peoples.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also wished brotherly Türkiye success in hosting COP31 in Antalya and the upcoming 13th OTS Summit in Ankara and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s continued support.
The meeting successfully concluded with the adoption of the Statement of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States.

During the meeting, the sides discussed preparations for the 13th OTS Summit, which will be hosted by Türkiye in Ankara on October 29-30, 2026, as well as global and regional developments of interest to the Turkic world.
