An intergovernmental agreement on the Azerbaijan–Georgia–Türkiye–Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor is planned to be signed as part of COP31 in November this year, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov said during the session titled “Regional Energy Connectivity and Green Transition: Challenges and Opportunities” held as part of the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026), APA reports.
The minister also said that the development of electricity connectivity through Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region is of strategic importance.
Shahbazov noted that the project, which will have an initial transmission capacity of 1 GW, will create a new connection between Azerbaijan’s energy systems.
According to him, the project will create additional opportunities to export green electricity generated in other regions of Azerbaijan and Central Asia to the Turkish and European markets via Nakhchivan.
The minister said that linking these projects could enable the creation of an integrated network of electricity interconnectors stretching from Central Asia to Europe.
