The delivery of Azerbaijani gas to 16 countries through the Southern Gas Corridor increases the regional and global significance of the country’s energy resources, Mikheil Khidureli, CEO of Georgia’s Investment Agency, said during the panel discussion titled “Azerbaijan at the Nexus of South Caucasus–Central Asia Strategic Partnerships: A Key Driver of Regional Cooperation,” held as part of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, APA reports.
According to him, Azerbaijani gas plays an important role in the energy supply of 16 countries.
He noted that the company’s cooperation, which began with the acquisition of a stake in a natural gas and condensate field in Azerbaijan, later expanded.
“We believe that infrastructure is a bridge connecting regional resources with regional cooperation. A few weeks ago, our company completed another deal with Azerbaijan and acquired a stake in the Southern Gas Corridor. The Southern Gas Corridor encompasses the pipeline system running through Georgia and Türkiye, starting from the production stage, as well as gas supplies to a number of European countries. Through this corridor, which has an annual capacity of 26 billion cubic meters and delivers gas to 16 countries, Azerbaijani gas plays an important role in the energy supply of those countries. The 3,500-kilometer infrastructure project also demonstrates Azerbaijan’s strategic importance for the region. By serving as a bridge between different regions, Azerbaijan enables the realization of great potential.”
The CEO said that the Caspian Sea is viewed not as something that divides the region, but as an opportunity that connects countries: “Along with expanding its activities in Azerbaijan, our company is also exploring new opportunities in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and other countries in the region.”
