As of January 1, 2027, the external public debt of the Republic of Azerbaijan is projected to amount to $4,833.0 million, while domestic public debt is expected to total 19,387.1 million manats, bringing total public debt to 27,604.1 million manats, APA-Economics reports, citing the Ministry of Finance.
The upper limit for total public debt servicing costs stipulated in the Medium- and Long-Term Public Debt Management Strategy (not exceeding 10% of state budget expenditures) was observed during the first half of 2026. Thus, the ratio of public debt servicing costs to state budget expenditures stood at 5.6%.
As of January 1, 2027, 59.5% of external public debt is expected to be repaid to creditors within up to five years, 34.9% within 5-10 years, and 5.6% over a period exceeding 10 years. New debt obligations to be raised as part of external public debt are expected to be attracted at approximately the relevant reference rate plus a margin of 0.5-1.5%.
As of the same date, government bonds issued on domestic financial markets are projected to account for 55.3% of domestic public debt. By the end of the year, 51.0% of outstanding government bonds are expected to have maturities of up to five years, while 49.0% are expected to have maturities of five years or more.
