Consultations on Article IV have begun between Azerbaijan and the IMF

On January 22, Deputy Minister of Finance and Acting Minister Azer Bayramov met with the members of the mission for Article IV Consultations between the Azerbaijani government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which is on a visit to Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Finance told APA-Economics.

It was noted that during the meeting, the preparations for the Article IV consultations and the directions of the analytical assessments to be carried out by the IMF were the focus of attention.

A. Bayramov provided extensive information on the macroeconomic results of 2024, the implementation of state and consolidated budgets, budget plans and expectations for 2025 and the medium term, the directions of budget policy, issues related to the application of the budget rule, the development perspectives of the country's economy, including the stable growth of the non-oil sector, reforms in the budget-tax policy, and the results achieved, highlighting the steps taken to increase efficiency in expenditures.

The head of the IMF mission for Azerbaijan, the Middle East, and Central Asia, Anna Bordon, stated that the main focus of the Article IV consultation for 2025 will be on recent economic developments, perspectives, and risks, including accelerating economic growth and reducing inflation.

During the mission visit from January 22 to February 5, 2025, discussions will be held in the institutions of the government’s economic bloc on macroeconomic innovations and prospects, oil and gas production, decarbonization initiatives, as well as mitigation and adaptation measures for climate change.
