Azerbaijani President chairs Cabinet meeting devoted to outcomes of Q1, 2012
‘Within the last 6 moths, country’s economy has developed. GDP has soared 1.5% and non-oil sector rose 11.3%. it is the highest indicator in world economy’, said the head of state.
‘Though total volume of industrial production dropped 3% as a result of low oil output, non-oil sector grew by 8.3%. Macroeconomic situation is stable, inflation made just 2.2%, populations’ income increased BY 14.2%. Agriculture saw 10.4% growth’, added Aliyev.
He also touched upon quake recorded in northern-western region of the republic: ‘The results of the quake were eliminated, new houses were built for persons, who lost houses during disaster. Besides, large-scale works are carried out in Baku and surrounding settlements, big infrastructure project are implemented, social projects are realized. As a result of the regional development program, 46,000 new work places were opened within the last 6 months. Of these, 37,000 are permanent’.
‘Solution of social issues is always in the focus of attention. The returning process of USSR-period banking savings is still continued. All of these measures serve the strengthening of social character of policy, pursued by the government. Our political economic power dictates that Azerbaijani population must increase more. The number of population hit 9.3 mln’, noted Aliyev.
‘Our position related to Armenian-Azerbaijani, Nagorno Karabakh conflict is based on justice and international principles’, expressed the President.
Thereupon, FinMinister Samir Sharifov, Minister of Culture and Tourism Ebulfaz Garayev, Chairman of State Customs Committee Aydin Aliyev spoke about the works done within 6 months.
President Aliyev expressed confidence that by the end of the year positive trend would amplify in the economy. He gave orders to preserve the level of inflation and the exchange rate of manat, the acceleration of economic reforms and improve the business climate. The President noted the need to put an end to groundless interference in the activities of government businesses, and to take important steps to accelerate the transition to an e-system, the creation of new industrial parks and large farms, on the transfer of obsolete industrial plants outside the city center.
Giving orders to improve drinking water supply of the population in some villages and town, the head of state spoke about the importance of stimulation of use of alternative energy sources, energy security of Azerbaijan and the partner countries.
While giving orders to improve the environmental situation in the capital, construction and reconstruction of educational institutions, the President said that next year’s budget would be social-and-investment-oriented. He noted that Azerbaijan’s strategic currency reserves now amount to 44 billion dollars, and the external public debt of the country makes 7& of GDP.
The President said that this year’s Eurovision, held in Baku was organized at a high level and that the most beautiful contest in the history of Eurovision was held in Baku.
The President said that the dirty campaign held on the eve of the contest against Azerbaijan in some quarters of the world, with the participation of the Armenian lobby and anti-national forces, roused regret.
