Azerpocht has started to issue plastic cards. According to Novruz Mammadov, the head of Postal Office of the Ministry of Communications & Information Technologies, Azerpocht has issued 2 000 plastic cards in accordance to the contract with MilliKart Processing Center. These cards are designed for postal workers’ salaries. Number and varieties of cards are planned to be increased in the future. He also noted that, Azerpocht would issue both local and Visa International system: “Presently, we are negotiating with Visa system. Azerpocht’s membership to Visa may be possible only in 3-5 years. If it happens, the post operator will issue Visa cards as wellâ€.
According to him, the potential customers of these cards will be pensioners and persons getting wages in the regions: “The payments are consumed via IBA and Kapital Bank. But it’s true that, they have not ATMs and POS-terminals in the villagesâ€. That’s why Azerpocht intends to launch its ATMs and POS-terminals from 2011.
Next year, Azerpocht intends to apply to relevant organizations for participation in giving of pensions and wages: “â€
Remind that, Azerpocht operates over 1200 branches and departments in Baku and regions. At the end of last year, Azerpocht has started to conduct financial services.
