Outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday that the current COVID-19 restrictions in her country "are not enough," APA reports citing Teletrader.
Sources from her Christian Democratic Union (CDU) also said she characterized the current boom in coronavirus cases as a "highly dramatic situation."
Germany has been struggling to stem the fourth wave of infections, with seven-day incidence rates hitting record highs on a daily basis. Currently, the country is seeing 386.5 cases per 100,000 people. Health Minister Jens Spahn warned that "by the end of winter, everyone will probably have either been vaccinated, recovered or died."
