France considers itself a "free" ally of the United States and participates in military operations when it suits its interests, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on LCI television, APA reports.
"It turns out that France is a free ally. An allied country, but not. This is not news," Lecornu said in response to a request to comment on US President Donald Trump's criticism of France for its refusal to join the US and Israeli military operation against Iran.
According to Lecornu, the French administration maintains a stable political line in its relations with Washington. He cited Paris's similar refusal to participate in the US war against Iraq in the early 2000s as an example.
