Armenia currently has no plans to withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a briefing for journalists today, Armenpress reports.
Pashinyan made the statement while commenting on his remarks in Brussels two days ago, when he said he considered it realistic for Armenia to apply for European Union (EU) membership in 2027 or 2028.
"We are not preparing to leave the EAEU. As we promised, we are preparing to offer our people alternative options. Our people must be able to make a choice. We do not intend to leave the EAEU, but you know that our partners in this organization are raising the issue of determining our foreign policy course and holding a referendum. I stated that there is currently no basis for holding a referendum. Certain procedures must be completed before holding a referendum on leaving the EAEU and joining the EU. We are following this path. It is clear to me that the process is moving toward officially submitting an application in 2027 or 2028 to begin the procedure for obtaining full membership status in the European Union," Nikol Pashinyan emphasized.
