Security measures have been tightened across France amid protests against conditions in schools and uncertainty surrounding the future of young people, France 24 reports.

The government has mobilized 70,000 police officers across the country to prevent possible unrest, and hundreds of thousands of people are expected to take to the streets in protests nationwide today.

According to a statement by the French Ministry of Education, 17.5% of teachers working in public primary schools are expected to join today's strike.

Students participating in the protests have drawn attention to deteriorating conditions in schools and concerns about future opportunities for young people.

Government spokesperson Maud Bregeon stated that the authorities are being extremely vigilant this time to prevent possible incidents.

As part of the security measures, the march route proposed by trade unions in Paris has also been changed. The authorities approved an alternative route instead of the original one.

Meanwhile, trade unions and human rights organizations have criticized the government's restrictions, describing the conduct of police forces as excessively harsh. French police have also been accused of using force against demonstrators.

The government, however, has stated that possible violations of the law will be investigated.

More than 2,700 people have been arrested during the protests held so far.
