“There is no doubt that this brave nation, which defends our values at expense of their own lives, is part of the European family,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at a joint press conference with the Romanian President in Bucharest, APA reports.
She recalled that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had already sent a written application for membership in the EU, and said that the process has already begun in this direction.
“Of course this issue will be discussed with the EU members. Now our main attention is how we can end this horrible war. Before the war we had very strong economic relations with Ukraine and we will further strengthen these ties. We are working to connect Ukraine to the EU power system, a process that will be completed in the coming weeks. We will experience all of these together with Ukraine. EU will continue to accompany Ukraine with determination,” said President of the European Commission.
