European Commission urges Russia and Ukraine to solve gas transfer problem

Brussels. Alexander Kin-APA. â€œAn argument between Russia and Ukraine on gas transfer does not coincide with reputation of the countriesâ€, Ferran Tarradellas Espuny, European Commissionâ€™s representative briefed, APAâ€™s special correspondent in Brussels reports.
He stated that the problem remained without any solution every year.
â€œAn analogical problem continues during winter season, when needs for natural gas increase. The case does not meet an image of gas exporter Russia and gas importer Ukraineâ€, he said.
Mr. Espuny underlined that representatives of European Commission’s Directorate-General for Transport and Energy had met with officials of organizations for energy of the two countries.
â€œEuropean Commission urged both sides to find way out of situation soon. We hope that an argument between Russia and Ukraine will not impact on European gas transferâ€, he added.
The diplomat stressed that the situation on European gas supply security would be assessed at the assembly of Gas Coordination Group on January 9.
