Russia may allocate a loan covering 85% of the total cost to finance the construction of the first Nuclear Power Plant to be built in Kazakhstan, said Almasadam Satkaliyev, head of Kazakhstan’s Atomic Energy Agency, TASS reports.
According to him, there will be no problem with financing the plant.
“A formula has been defined that envisages the provision of an interstate loan by the Russian Federation to the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” Satkaliyev noted.
According to him, intergovernmental agreements are already being prepared regarding the construction of the “Balkhash” NPP, which is being built jointly with Russia’s Rosatom company.
“That is, the first agreement directly concerns the construction of the nuclear power plant, while the second agreement relates to financing provided by Russia. It is about covering 85% of the costs through a loan (from Russia - ed.) and 15% by the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan. These documents are currently at a fairly advanced stage of preparation,” Satkaliyev added.
