"By 2030, in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, the generation capacity will reach 1.6 GW through hydro, solar, wind power plants, and rooftop panels," said Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, during his speech on the second day of the 2nd Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW), APA-Economics reports.
"With these projects, this huge region of Azerbaijan will produce twice as much green electricity as it consumes, enabling a reduction of more than 2 million tons of emissions," the minister noted.
According to him the development of these regions as a “Green Energy Zone” provides strong support for climate action.
"Measures are also being taken to implement this model, encompassing all components of the energy transition in Nakhchivan, which has a renewable energy potential of 5 to 7 GW," he emphasized.
