Global investments in data centers are projected to reach $580 billion in 2025, APA-Economics reports, citing the International Energy Agency (IEA).
According to the IEA, the agency’s Executive Director Fatih Birol provided this estimate.
According to him, this figure will exceed the 540 billion dollars allocated for global oil supply.
“This is a clear example of the changing nature of modern economies,” Fatih Birol emphasized.
The Executive Director stated that, unlike the tendencies of the past decade, the growth in electricity demand is no longer limited only to developing countries.
“The rapid increase in demand in the fields of data centers and artificial intelligence is also raising electricity consumption in developed countries,” he noted.
Fatih Birol added that the world is rapidly entering the “Electric Era,” and it is already clearly visible today that this period has begun.
