"This year, it seems unlikely to double global energy efficiency," Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), said during the event titled Ministerial Dialogue: Scaling up Investment for Tripling Renewables and Doubling Energy Efficiency held as part of COP29, APA-Economics reports.
"The results achieved regarding the goals of doubling energy efficiency and tripling the use of renewable energy are unsatisfactory. The disappointing results are related to energy efficiency. Last year, we agreed to increase the global energy efficiency growth rate from 2% to 4% annually. However, looking at this year's figures, global energy efficiency has only increased by 1%, which is half of what it was 10 years ago," Fatih Birol stated.
