Global liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply will increase by 50% by 2030 due to new projects, APA-Economics reports, citing the International Energy Agency (IEA) report “World Energy Outlook – 2025” (WEO-2025).

All scenarios in WEO-2025 indicate that there will be sufficient oil and gas reserves worldwide in the near term. Oil markets are already reflecting this: in the current geopolitical sensitivity, oil prices remain at the level of 60-65 USD per barrel.

“At the same time, market balances for natural gas are also expected to soften as new LNG export projects come online,” the report notes.

Recent investment decisions for new LNG projects increased rapidly in 2025 and will contribute to an increase in natural gas supply in the coming years. By 2030, 300 billion cubic meters of new annual LNG export capacity is expected to come on stream, increasing the current global LNG supply by 50%. About half of the new capacity is being built in the United States, with an additional 20% in Qatar.

The report notes that the easing of short-term market balances for oil and gas is not a cause for complacency. Both markets are sensitive to geopolitical risks, and faster demand growth (in response to weak energy transition policies or low prices) could quickly deplete existing reserves.
