First solar panel installed at Azerbaijan’s largest Solar Power Plant -PHOTO-UPDATED

The first solar panel installation ceremony was held at the Bilasuvar Solar Power Plant, which will have a capacity of 445 MW, APA-Economics' correspondent dispatched to Bilasuvar reports.

During the event, it was reported that more than 943 thousand panels manufactured by the Chinese company "JA Solar" and capable of generating electricity on both sides are planned to be installed at the Bilasuvar SPP, which has a total area of 1,400 hectares. Solar panels with a capacity of 625-630 W are being brought to the site in stages. The station will be equipped with 8,131 single-axis tracking systems. After commissioning, the cleaning of the panels will be carried out automatically using special devices. The station is planned to be commissioned next year.

The event was attended by the Head of the Bilasuvar District Executive Power, Faig Gurbatov, Director of the State Agency for Renewable Energy Sources under the Ministry of Energy, Javid Abdullayev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Azerenergy OJSC, Abdulaziz Alobaidli, Chief Operating Officer of Masdar, Afgan Isayev, Vice President of SOCAR, Elmir Musayev, General Director of SOCAR Green and other representatives, who emphasized the importance of the project in the energy transition and environmental protection. It was stated in the speeches that the Bilasuvar SPP, implemented in accordance with Azerbaijan's renewable energy targets, will be one of the largest solar energy projects in the region in terms of both production capacity and the scale of technologies used.

Officials and guests attending the ceremony symbolically signed the solar panels and participated in the installation of the first panel.

During the ceremony, a presentation covering the main points of the project was shown to the participants. After that, high-ranking guests will symbolically participate in the installation of the first solar panel and sign commemorative panels.

Recall that to expand the use of renewable energy sources and create a green energy zone, an agreement was signed between the Azerbaijani state and the United Arab Emirates' Masdar company regarding the construction of a solar power plant in the Bilasuvar district, and on June 4, 2024, the foundation stone of the project was laid with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies Sultan Ahmed Al-Jaber.
