A presentation of Energy Efficiency Policy in Azerbaijan: A Roadmap was held during an event organized in cooperation with the International Energy Agency (IEA) as part of COP29, the Ministry of Energy told APA-Economics.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov stated that Azerbaijan supports international efforts to combat climate change, has committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and is taking serious steps to accelerate the transition to a green economy, increase the share of renewable energy sources, and ensure energy efficiency. It was emphasized that energy efficiency is a key component of the country's energy transition policy and strategic documents and noted that a legal and regulatory framework has been established in this area.

Based on the Roadmap developed within the EU4Energy program of the European Union, which reflects the current status of the energy efficiency policy in the country, Azerbaijan has a 50% energy efficiency potential in multi-apartment residential buildings. Realizing this potential could lead to savings of up to 4.2 billion cubic meters of gas annually, a reduction of up to 10 million tons of carbon emissions, and the creation of 125,000 new jobs.

The event continued with panel discussions on future priorities for energy efficiency, challenges and solutions ahead, and the study of international experiences.
