US Secretary of State Marco Rubio may resign as part of preparations to run in the 2028 presidential election, the British newspaper The Independent reports, citing sources.
According to the sources, Rubio may leave his post due to the Republican Party's defeat in the US congressional midterm elections.
The newspaper writes that Rubio needs to distance himself from the policies of US President Donald Trump's administration, including the war in Iran. The newspaper believes this could increase his chances in the race against Vice President James David Vance for the Republican presidential nomination.
The Independent also noted that up to five agency heads could leave the Trump administration in the near future.
However, the White House and the US State Department have denied the newspaper's claims.
