Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has accused Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of attempting to confuse the Armenian population over the choice between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU), APA's Moscow bureau reports.
Speaking at a briefing, the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that there was nothing concrete in the Armenian Prime Minister's statements made today.
According to her, although very specific questions were raised in the May 29 statement by the leaders of four EAEU countries, they have still not been answered.
"EAEU partners still do not understand official Yerevan's logic — even according to simple logic, before taking any step, one must first ask the opinion of one's own people," Zakharova added.
Speaking about the possibility of Armenia withdrawing from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted that there was no prospect of establishing an alternative security architecture in the South Caucasus.
"Western countries are trying to 'interfere in the region' with their own standards of military development and management. These countries are neither capable of nor intend to ensure stability in the region," she said.
Zakharova emphasized that Yerevan could return to full participation in the CSTO at any time and that no one was forcing Armenia to remain in the organization.
"The country has the right to apply all procedures provided for in the charter and withdraw from the organization after fulfilling its existing obligations," she stated.
