At least 15 flights across Europe have been affected by bomb threats on Thursday, with several aircraft diverted to other airports and some escorted by fighter jets, CNN reports.
According to the information, flights in France, Italy, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Romania and Austria were affected by the threats.
Four flights were diverted to Václav Havel Airport in Prague, while three aircraft landed in Bulgaria. Other affected flights included services departing from Dublin, Helsinki, Madrid, Copenhagen, Milan and Warsaw. Authorities said no explosive devices had been found during inspections of the aircraft.
The source of the threats remains unknown, and there is currently no clear indication of who was behind them.
European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas stated that it was too early to determine whether the incidents were connected, adding that national investigations were ongoing. The European Union has activated its information-sharing mechanism related to aviation security and is monitoring the situation in cooperation with the affected member states and the European Aviation Safety Agency.
