A delegation led by Tural Piriyev, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Deposit Insurance Fund (ADIF), participated in the 25th Annual General Meeting of the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), held in Berlin, Germany, from October 26 to 30, 2026, the Fund told APA-Economics.
The delegation included Akshin Jahangirov, Deputy Executive Director of the Fund, and Jalal Rayi, Director of the Insurance and Risk Management Department.
During the international event, discussions focused on strengthening the institutional resilience of deposit insurance systems, increasing the functional effectiveness of the financial safety net, improving bank resolution and liquidation mechanisms, prudential risk assessment, and enhancing the operational flexibility of reimbursement payments amid digital transformation. Meetings of the Association's regional and technical committees, relevant council committees, and Executive Council reviewed the implementation of international regulatory standards, optimization of organizational governance tools, and promising areas of multilateral cooperation.
During the visit, the Fund's delegation held bilateral meetings with representatives of the competent deposit insurance authorities of Spain, Hungary, Italy, Mongolia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nigeria. The meetings included an exchange of experience on the differentiation of risk-based insurance premiums, methodological foundations of stress-testing models, legal and organizational regulation of bank liquidation processes, the legal and regulatory status of electronic money, as well as deposit protection mechanisms based on Islamic finance principles. At the same time, prospects for signing memorandums of understanding with relevant regulatory authorities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nigeria were discussed to establish the foundations for effective partnerships.
Akshin Jahangirov, Deputy Executive Director of the Fund, who attended the meeting, was elected Vice Director of IADI's Reimbursement Technical Committee (RTC). This appointment is of significant importance in terms of expanding the Fund's international institutional representation, increasing opportunities to participate in shaping global methodological approaches to reimbursement payments, and deepening multilateral professional cooperation.
The participation of the Azerbaijan Deposit Insurance Fund in this international platform serves to facilitate the adoption of advanced international practices, integrate international standards in deposit insurance into the development priorities of the national system, and continuously improve mechanisms aimed at protecting depositors' rights.
