It is the anniversary of the Lachin City coming under Azerbaijan's control, APA reports.
The city of Lachin, the villages of Zabukh and Sus came under the control of Azerbaijan on August 26, 2022. On August 26, 2022, the Azerbaijani Army settled in the city of Lachin. In addition to the city of Lachin, the villages of Zabukh and Sus were also taken under control.
In accordance with the trilateral statement signed as a result of the Victory in the Patriotic War, Lachin district was handed over to Azerbaijan on December 1, 2020.
However, since the corridor of Lachin passes through the city of Lachin, the city was left under the temporary control of the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
According to the November 10, 2020 Trilateral Statement by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia, and Armenia, agreements were to be made regarding the construction of a new road within three years as an alternative to the Lachin corridor.
The Azerbaijani side completed the agreements sooner, the route of the new road was confirmed with the Russian side, and the construction of the new road was began by taking urgent measures.
After 1 year and 8 months, the construction of the alternative road was completed. Azerbaijan officially notified that the road was ready on August 2, 2022. The notification stated that on August 5, Azerbaijan is entering the city of Lachin, including the old road, and returns to the city of Lachin.
Following this, the Armenians living in Garabagh appealed to the Azerbaijani authorities, requesting additional time until August 25 to vacate the area. Despite the illegal settlement conducted by Armenia during the occupation, Azerbaijan once again demonstrated humanitarianism by granting the Armenians time until August 25.
Thus, on August 26, the Azerbaijani Army entered the city of Lachin, and the city of Lachin, as well as the villages of Zabukh and Sus, were completely taken under control.
On September 21, 2022, President of Azerbaijan and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev raised the Azerbaijani Flag in the city of Lachin.
In a short period, construction and reconstruction work began both in the city of Lachin and in the villages of Zabukh and Sus.
As a result of the work carried out, the return of former internally displaced persons to the city of Lachin and the villages of Zabukh and Sus has already begun.
The first resettlement to the city of Lachin took place on May 27, 2023. The return of the Lachin residents to their native city continues.
Note that President Ilham Aliyev signed an Order on July 31, 2023 on establishing city days for the liberated territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
According to the Order, August 26 was designated as the day of Lachin City. City days are celebrated with great solemnity.
