Trainings on elections organized by CEC and Venice Commission commence in Baku

CEC Chairman Mazahir Panahov stressed an importance of increase of awareness of members of Constituency Election Commission ConECs and Precinct Election Commission (PECs) within international norms. To him, 15 CEC members have received international certificates on elections and awareness of members of low election bodies should be also increased.
“There are 30 members in low election bodies. The country is estimated by holding democratic elections. Presidential elections are very important for Azerbaijan, which integrates into democracy. Azerbaijan will prove its democracy,” he said. Secretary of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio noted that Venice Commissions had cooperated with Azerbaijan on elections for along time. To him, preparation of Election Code was important term for cooperation with Azerbaijan.
“Venice Commission has already stated its opinion on Election Code. We consider that current legislation is a good base for holding just and free elections, if Election Code needed to be amended. The President told me that they tried to hold most democratic elections in the history of Azerbaijan and met international norms at the meeting yesterday,” he said. Moreover, the event discussed issues on the elections.
