Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. The Victoria and Albert Museum presents Central Asian Ikats from the Rau Collection in exhibition organized by Culture and Tourism Ministry and Azerbaijan State Art Museum named after R. Mustafayev. According to APA, this is first exhibition organized in the second building of the Art Museum after its reconstruction. Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev said 58 kinds of clothes and veils of the Central Asia were demonstrated at the exhibition. “According to scientific sources, today independent countries - Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, as well as Afghanistan and a part of the Western China are located within the natural borders of the Central Asia, surrounded by the Caspian Sea, Siberian steppes, Iranian deserts and which were changed time by time. The Great Silk Road, which had ensured the development of trade between the East and West before the sea routes were opened, passed through these territories. This paved the way for the enrichment of Central Asian art. The exhibition demonstrates the examples of this art from the Rau Collection. The exhibition will last until March 3, 2010. Baku residents, who will take interests in the collection, can visit the exhibition in this period”.

Senior curator of Victoria and Albert Museum’s Central Asian department Tim Stanley expressed satisfaction with the opening of such exhibition. He said he wished sustainable cooperation with the Azerbaijani museums and necessary steps would be done on this way. The guest emphasized that he found the Azerbaijan State Art Museum very beautiful and welcomed the opening of the exhibition in such beautiful place.
