Competition announced for preparation of draft general plan of Azerbaijan Ethnography Museum

Baku. Ulkar Gasimova – APA. Culture and Tourism Ministry announced international competition for the preparation of the draft general plan of Azerbaijan Ethnography Museum, the ministry told APA. According to the order #2941 “On establishment of Azerbaijan Ethnography Museum” issued by Azerbaijani President on July 11, 2008, competition on the preparation of Azerbaijan ethnography museum will be held in the open air in Gobu settlement of Absheron district.

According to the conditions of the international competition, the draft plan should protect the national heritage, reflect the past and present of Azerbaijani people, the museum should serve the upbringing of the youth in the spirit of patriotism, loyalty to customs and traditions and respect to historical and cultural values. The museum will be established in the 200ha area in Gobu settlement allotted to Culture and Tourism Ministry. All examples of the people’s culture should supplement one another.

Popular home types, economic facilities, water and wind mills, art workshops, folklore art exhibits, popular transports, household tools and equipments, as well as tools used in agronomy, cattle breeding, beekeeping and other agriculture spheres, furniture, and other exhibits contributed to the protection, popularization of ancient and rich culture and traditions of the Azerbaijani people and delivering it to the next generations, should create background for the Azerbaijan Museum of Ethnography. A working experience of the world exemplary open-air museums and latest achievements of the ethnographic studies should be used in the establishment of the museum. The square of the future museum should describe all historic-ethnographic regions of Azerbaijan, generally should be a “miniature Azerbaijan”.

The projects should be approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism until April 1, 2010. Winners of the contest will be awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively 60000 AZN, 40000 AZN and 20000AZN.
The works-winners of the contest are the national property in use of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan.
