Minister: â€œInclusion of Ashug music and Novruz holiday into UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage is a great success for Azerbaijanâ€

Ulkar Gasimova â€“ APA. â€œInclusion of Icherisheher (Old City), Mugham, Gobustan, Ashug music and Novruz holiday, which reflect Azerbaijanâ€™s culture and history, into UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage is a great success for Azerbaijanâ€, said Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev, APA reports.

According to the minister, Ashug music has already been included into the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Of course, the interest in Ashug music will considerably increase. But the question isâ€¦ are the regions popular with Ashug music ready for demonstrating this art at high level? We should expand our activities to eliminate this question.

Abulfas Garayev noted that a number of issues of primary importance would be discussed at the meeting of culture ministers of Islamic countries in Baku on October 13. Devastated cultural and historical monuments of Azerbaijan in the occupied territories are among the issues mentioned above.
