The Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov has met with Alkis Vryenios Drakinos, Regional Head of the Caucasus for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, APA-Economics reports citing Ministry.
At the meeting, it was underscored that there is successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EBRD in various directions and that Azerbaijan attaches importance to the development of relations with EBRD. It was noted that the projects implemented jointly with the EBRD in the fields of environment, energy, transport, transit and other areas contributed to the diversification of the economy. The EBRD side was informed about opportunities for cooperation in the direction of realization of the set development goals, especially renewable and alternative energy, development of the private sector, development of public-private partnership, priority projects in infrastructure and other directions.
Alkis Vryenios Drakinos expressed satisfaction with the level of relations with Azerbaijan. It was noted that the organization is interested in encouragement of economic diversification in Azerbaijan, increasing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized business subjects by developing financial markets, and supporting the acceleration of the transition to the green economy.
The parties discussed the issues on the agenda of Azerbaijan-EBRD relations, the initial draft of the State Strategy for Azerbaijan for 2024-2029, intensive support for the green economy and the prospects of jointly implemented projects. It was stated that the bank is interested in cooperation within COP29, views were exchanged on the challanges for COP29 and the implementation of financing mechanisms in the fight against climate change.
