Baku-APA. After the publication of the preliminary results of the exit polls of parliamentary elections in Georgia, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili appealed to the nation. He thanked all those who took part in the elections. According to him, Georgian Dream won in the proportional vote while United National Movement won a landslide victory in the majoritarian elections, APA reports quoting georgiaonline.ge.

The Georgian Parliament is composed of deputies elected by the majority and proportional (party-list) vote system.

"Now, it will become clear who won a majority in the parliament, but we can already say that the elections were held. Georgian authorities were able to hold transparent elections as it was promised. Victory of “Georgian Dream "on proportional lists was largely due to the votes received in Tbilisi. In the regions of Georgia, according to preliminary information, the United National Movement is winning, but that does not mean that we will divide the country into regions and the capital - we are all Georgians, citizens of Georgian, and the main thing now is to collectively get involved into the democratic process. I as President, I guarantee that the transition to the new parliament will happen safely and in compliance with the law", Saakashvili said.
