Baku-APA. Six militants and a federal serviceman were killed in two operations in Russia’s volatile North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) said Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

All the militants killed were identified, including a gang leader, Murad Abdurakhmanov, born in 1985, the NAC said.

It said local residents were evacuated and no civilians were injured during the two counter-terrorism operations, which were carried out separately in the towns of Khasavurt and Kaspiisk.

In both operations, security troops had come under intensive fire from the militants.

Violence is common in Russia’s North Caucasus, especially in the republics of Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, with militants frequently mounting attacks against police officers and authorities.

In May, then Interior Minister Rashid Nurgaliyev said Russian forces had killed 155 militants in the North Caucasus region in the first four months of 2012.
