Russia has called on the United Kingdom to abandon its policy of escalation and stated that it reserves the right to take necessary retaliatory measures in the exercise of its right to self-defense, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, APA reports.
She stated that British military facilities used by Ukraine to launch strikes on Russian territory could be considered legitimate targets by Moscow.
"Any British military facility in Ukraine used to launch strikes on Russian territory is a legitimate target," Zakharova said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its protest to London over Britain's increased supplies of weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles to Kyiv. The ministry announced that the UK's chargé d'affaires in Moscow had been summoned to the Foreign Ministry.
The Russian side also warned that London would bear responsibility for any further deterioration of the situation.
Note that on September 17, Russia's Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Dmitry Polyanskiy, stated that Moscow had the right to regard Britain's supply of UAVs to Ukraine as "direct participation in the war."
