European markets rally

On Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 247.14 points, or 2.91 per cent, to 8,726.61, while the Standard & Poor’s 500 index was 30.29 points higher, or 3.53 per cent, to 887.68.
The Nasdaq added 67.37 points, or 4.6 per cent, to 1,532.10.
LONDON - European stock markets closed higher, with the London FTSE 100 index of leading shares up 73.41 points, or 1.77 per cent, at 4,226.1.
FRANKFURT - The DAX gained 104.77 points, or 2.3 per cent, to 4,665.27.
PARIS - The CAC 40 jumped 80.54 points, or 2.54 per cent, to 3,250.39.
TOKYO - Japan’s Nikkei average rose 1.95 per cent to its highest close in over a week as hopes that a Chinese interest rate cut will help China’s economy bolstered shippers, steelmakers and construction machinery firms.
