Baku. Vahab Rzayev - APA-Economics. Stocks finished mostly higher as investors were encouraged by the government’s new initiatives to help unfreeze the credit markets. Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 122.18 points, or 1.44 per cent, to 8,601.65.
The Standard & Poor’s 500 index was 18.76 points higher, or 2.19 per cent, to 876.19, and the Nasdaq had added 47.57 points, or 3.25 per cent, to 1,512.30.
The FTSE 100 index of leading shares closed down 18.56 points, or 0.44 per cent, at 4,152.69 points.
FRANKFURT - The DAX edged up 0.08 points to 4,560.50 points.
PARIS - The CAC 40 fell 39.71 points, or 1.24 per cent, to 3,169.85 points.
TOKYO - The Nikkei lost 110.71 points, or 1.33 per cent, to 8,213.22 points.
