Baku-APA. Ismail Haneya, premier of Hamas government that rules the Gaza Strip, said Friday that there is no fear of losing their cause after the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated president Mohamed Morsi was ousted in Egypt, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"This doesn't mean that the regional nations are not supporting our people and resistance to lift the siege imposed on Gaza," Haneya told Friday prayers at a mosque in central Gaza.
Haneya's remarks came against the backdrop of the removal of Morsi from power by Egypt's armed forces on Wednesday after days of massive protests against him due to his "poor performance" since he was elected president last June.
Hamas is the Palestinian extension of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood, to which Morsi belongs. In 2007, Hamas wrested control of the Gaza Strip from forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
"We shouldn't be despaired or depressed under any circumstance because the Arab and Islamic nations strongly believe in our cause, " Haneya added.
Hamas, suffering isolation under the era of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, was buoyed by the 2011 Egyptian turmoil, which saw the Muslim Brotherhood taking power last year.
