On July 6, 2023, the Baku Initiative Group (BIG) was established by the unanimous decision of the participants at the international conference titled “Towards the Complete Elimination of Colonialism,” held in Baku as part of the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement, APA reports.
Over these three years, BIG has brought the issues of colonialism and neocolonialism, which had been almost forgotten on the world's political agenda, back into the spotlight and has become the main driving platform for the decolonization process.
During its three years of operation, BIG has organized more than 40 international conferences, 10 of which were held at various United Nations headquarters. At the same time, more than 50 publications have been prepared, and 10 cooperation memorandums have been signed. During this period, BIG has established close cooperation with more than 25 countries and overseas territories.
Among its greatest achievements is the establishment of the International Decolonization Front – FID (French: Front international de décolonisation) in Azerbaijan's capital.
The organization continues to steadily expand its cooperation with international organizations, academic circles, and civil society institutions. At the initiative of BIG, representatives of indigenous peoples from various regions, national liberation movements, members of parliament, scholars, international experts, human rights defenders, and civil society institutions come together.
